THE PROJECT
MTN MoMo is Africa's largest mobile money platform enabling consumers, agents, and businesses to send, receive, save, and grow money digitally across 14 African Operating Companies. The platform serves three distinct user types: the Consumer App for everyday users, Agent Apps (Independent Agent, Retailer, Rebalancer) for the ground-level network that makes MoMo work, and the Master Portal Web for supervisors managing the network. Each OpCo has its own regulatory environment, language, and user context.
GOAL
To lead product design strategy and execution across MTN MoMo's multi-platform fintech ecosystem — delivering scalable, user-centred solutions that work across 14 markets without rebuilding from scratch for every OpCo.
THE CHALLENGE
MTN MoMo agents had no visibility into their own earnings — no reports, no commission breakdown, no way to know which products were performing or which hours were most profitable. They were working hard every day with no data to work smarter. New features also needed to be designed and deployed consistently across 14 markets, four device ecosystems, and multiple regulatory frameworks simultaneously.
ROI
The Agent Reports System was the first ever commission reporting tool for MoMo agents, tracking Cashout, Bill Payments, Deposits, TopUp Sales, and Send Money, with PDF and CSV download.
Agent Insights showed peak earning hours (8am–5pm), remaining daily commission, and target tracking.
MoMo Virtual Card, Store Artifacts, and Event Tickets launched on App Store and Google Play across 14 OpCos. The Master Portal gave supervisors full network visibility. A scalable design system with tokens enabled consistent implementation across 14 engineering teams.
